• In January of 2006, 523 of our neighbors stayed in shelters. Over a hundred of the 523 were children.    During that same time, 39 of our neighbors called the street their home.

• Over 43,000 of our neighbors are living below the poverty line.

• In order for someone in Forsyth County to afford a Fair Market Rent 2 bedroom apartment, he/she    would have to earn $12.06 per hour. That is almost 200% of the minimum wage in North Carolina.

• 8 out of 10 of our neighbors that are uninsured come from working families

• 48,563 of our neighbors are uninsured.

• Almost one third of our children in Forsyth County are on Medicaid.

• 10,767 households in Forsyth County receive food stamps

• Since 2000, the number of lunches provided by the soup kitchen at Samaritan Ministries has    increased by 39%.

• 760 of our students dropped out of high school during the 2004/2005 school year.

• 3,000 families in Forsyth County are in need of affordable housing.
